bout the artist
The creative mind responsible for these elusive creatures can be credited to Albert Alfaro. Mr. Alfaro has been sculpting and designing for over 30 years. It was early in his childhood when his ability to design and sculpt beings from every corner of his imagination was unearthed. Although he played with all forms of sculpture, and still does, his true passion and years of honed skill lay in puppetry. He experimented with many means of coercing his creatures to life: hand, rod, cable, marionette and other methods of his own creation. He focused on fantasy creatures, sprung from a love developed at a very young age. In the early 70's Albert invented his first original animated pets, the "Wise Aces". He realized quickly how amazed the public was with his new invention and acquired the necessary patents. Albert went on inventing and developing new ideas based on the original patent. Eventually they evolved into the beasts you recognize today, Drabbits. Presently his dragons, griffins, unicorns, fairies and other whimsical creatures are some of the most successful puppets on the market. Each puppet is hand made individually just like they were over 30 years ago. The personality and expression captured in every animal is truly a work of fine art.
Albert Alfaro is one of the most sought after sculptors in the world. He has designed for Fortune 500 companies as well as the movie industry. Mr. Alfaro has been quoted as saying, "the true measure of success is in the smiles you put on people's faces". The magic of his incredible puppets is their agelessness, "from 2 to 102, everyone loves them".
Of course, his true pride and joy is his wonderful family. Albert is blessed with four children and a beautiful wife. His two sons are very active in the family business. Anthony, who has been sculpting since the age of seven, is now creating designs of his own while traveling the country managing his father's shops. And Justin who helps his father with the puppet making at home. The Alfaro's are always looking for new and exciting ways to improve their puppets, from smoke breathing to ventriloquist dragons, and tiny dragons that sit on your fingers to dragons the size of a young lion!
